Create learning experiences that engage students to explore the world around them

Based on the recent shift towards applied learning, the demand from schools and community organizations for project-based learning experiences is now greater that ever for K-12 STEM education. STEM | LAB Studios connects formal education standards with informal “real-world” design and fabrication opportunities. Networking educators from the international Fab Lab and Maker communities with education organizations, we seek to create platforms for STEM learning that: (1) create learning outcomes for knowledge exchange and consolidation of best practices in STEM digital fabrication education, (2) develop a framework for teacher professional development and (3) develop teacher modules that support educators interested in teaching STEM using digital fabrication through trans-disciplinary, hands-on learning environments. The primary goal of STEM | LAB Studios is to generate a community of effective STEM practices and create shared resources of effective teaching strategies based on access to digital fabrication tools, techniques and people in the U.S. and around the world.
